New research shows wildlife tourism plays a vital part in Scotland’s rural economy, pulling in millions of pounds and also creating many hundreds of job opportunities.
The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Brendan Smith TD, has announced details of two new on-farm investment schemes designed to improve the standards of animal welfare in sow housing and for poultry production.
The Minister for Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs, Mr Pat Carey, has announced that he is making available an initial allocation for 2011 of €40m under the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013.
The deadline for submissions to the public debate on the future of the Common Agricultural Policy post-2013 has been extended to close of business on Friday the 11th of June, 2010.
Speaking at the meeting of the Council of Agriculture Ministers held in Merida, Spain, Tuesday, the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Brendan Smith TD said that “the future common agricultural policy (CAP) must support farm incomes and address the issue of price and income volatility while at the same time avoiding market distortions”.
